A detailed look at Ferrari’s performance in 2012 Formula 1 season so far
Ferrari are currently standing at second place in the constructors’ championship and are surely one of the most favourite contenders in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
The Scarlet team had a quite struggling pre-season testing programme this year as they faced difficulties in structuring the design of F2012. Moreover, their technical director, Pat Fry even ruled out the likelihood of a podium finish in the first race.
Additionally, they expected to suffer with finding the true pace in the first few grands prix this season.
Nevertheless, their driver, Fernando Alonso has performed amazingly well in the season until now and is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 154 points ahead of Red Bull Racing pair of drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel.
The Spaniard secured an inspiring fifth place finish in the season opener after taking a start from 12th grid position. Later, he claimed a tremendous victory in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in wet weather conditions after setting
off from 8th grid slot.
Contrarily, he faced issues concerning the car’s aerodynamics in the third race and could only secure 9th place finish and encountered with the same problems in the next race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir in which he came 7th
in the charts.
Nonetheless, the two-time world champion strike back very well in the Spanish GP and secured an incredible second podium finish. Afterwards, in the Monaco GP, he again delivered a remarkable performance and secured third podium finish after beginning from
5th place in the grid.
Although, he performed quite convincingly in the qualifying of Canadian GP and secured third grid position, however, he faced a little bit difficulty and came 5th in the race.
Nevertheless, he took a notable victory in the European GP after starting the race from 11th grid position. Later on, he delivered an outstanding performance in the qualifying of the British GP and claimed the pole position in rainy condition
after two years. Conversely, he could only secure second podium finish as he was encountered with the issue of tyre degradation.
Additionally, he scored a magnificent win in the German GP after securing the pole position and emerged as the first driver to take three grands prix victories in the current season so far.
Besides, he said that they need to keep on making the considerable progress in order to enhance their pace for the Hungarian GP.
“I always want to give 100% and work day and night towards this goal. I don't want anyone to come to Hungary better prepared than me, physically or mentally or more motivated than me. I expect to go well in Budapest and there is no reason to be pessimistic.
However, I am not forgetting that Red Bull and McLaren were quicker. I said that month of July would be crucial, with 75 points up for grabs in four weeks and so far we have brought home 43, so we will try and finish the job in Hungary,” he said.
On the other hand, his teammate, Felipe Massa is presently at 14th place in the drivers’ rankings with 23 points between the Force India pair of drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta.
The Brazilian driver has only been able to score points in four of the first ten races while his best performance includes his fourth place finish which he secured at Silverstone Circuit after setting off from fifth grid slot.
