A detailed look at Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel’s career – Formula 1
Sebastian Vettel, the driver that became the youngest Formula 1 champion in the history of the sport in 2010, has been one of the most inspirational drivers of all time for many as he is one of those drivers who started racing from a very young age and proved
himself in a short period of time.
Vettel joined the sport with Toro Rosso back in 2007 and surprisingly scored 6 points in just 8 races to score the 14th place in the drivers’ standings keeping in mind that Toro Rosso was a new team in Formula 1 back then.
He stayed with the team for another season until the end of the 2008 Formula 1 season which was his first full season in the sport as a regular driver. The German gave an outstanding performance throughout the year by scoring 35 points to secure the 8th
place with the help of a win and a pole position which is considered as the best run by a Toro Rosso driver in the sport.
Red Bull Racing, the more senior team of Toro Rosso decided to sign him for the 2009 Formula 1 season which was the breakthrough Sebastian needed in order to make it with the “big shots” of the sport.
Vettel scored 4 race wins, 8 podiums and 10 pole positions which is the most pole positions by any driver in the 2009 Formula 1 season to secure the 2nd place in the drivers’ standings. He scored 84 points while the championship winner Jenson
Button scored 95 points to win the title for his team BrawnGP.
Nevertheless, this was the year when the management of Red Bull Racing including Christian Horner and Adrian Newey realised that Vettel has what it takes to win the championship since the young German even outscored his teammate Mark Webber who is a very
well experienced driver of the sport.
The team started its 2010 run with the best possible car they could build and introduced one of the “highlight” devices of the season known as the Blown Diffuser which was the main reason for the pace difference between Red Bull and its rivals in 2010, the
Ferrari and McLaren.
However, Red Bull did not have a very good start to the season, as both of its drivers were unable to finish on the podium while Ferrari dominated the opening race in Bahrain with a 1-2 finish.
The following race in Australia was a disaster for Vettel as he retired out of the race but after that, the reigning world champion won his first race of the season and scored 10 pole positions throughout the season which is once again, the most pole positions
scored by any driver in the 2010 Formula 1 season.
After winning 5 races and scoring 10 podiums, Sebastian Vettel became the youngest champion of the sport and it is believed that the main reason for his competitiveness is his pace as he has scored more pole positions than any other driver ever did at this
age.
The 2011 Formula 1 season is not looking any different either as the young German has secured 5 race wins in just 7 races so far. He is currently dominating the season with 161 points which is 60 points ahead of his closest rival Jenson Button.
