A detailed look at Romain Grosjean’s performance in 2012 Formula 1 season so far
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has proved himself as one of the most talented drivers and has performed impressively well in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far.
At present, he is standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 76 points along with Jenson Button of McLaren. Moreover, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and is just one point behind his main rival, Nico Rosberg.
It will be important to mention that the French driver is taking part in his first full season and has inspired everyone with his remarkable performances in the first eleven grands prix.
Even though, he delivered quite convincingly performances in the qualifying of the first two races as he secured third and sixth grid positions. However, he could not score even a single point in both the opening races as he was retired.
Nonetheless, he made a reasonable comeback in the Chinese GP and secured 6th place finish after setting off from the 10th grid position.
Later, he showed an inspiring performance in the Bahrain GP as he secured third podium finish after taking a start from 7th grid slot. Then, in the Spanish GP, he performed quite credibly and secured fourth place finish after beginning from the
third grid position.
Afterwards, in the Monaco GP, he could not pocket any points as he was retired even after setting off from 4th place in the grid. Later on, he strike back well in the Canadian GP and secured an incredible second podium finish after starting from
7th grid position.
Conversely, in the European GP, he could not score any points and was retired after starting from fourth grid position. Nonetheless, he performed quite well in the British GP as he came 6th in the timesheets after taking a start from 9th
grid position.
Contrarily, he struggled during the qualifying of German GP and could not make his way into the second session and came 18th in the charts. Over and above, he secured 3rd podium finish in the Hungarian GP after qualifying for the second
grid slot.
It will be important to mention that after the preceding race, he felt a little bit disappointed as he lost his second position to his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen.
"Unfortunately, I got stuck behind another car, which had been flagged but didn't let me past in this lap and I lost 1.5 seconds," he said. "I wasn't very happy at that stage to be honest because I had been fighting for win whole race with Lewis and suddenly
you get stopped by something you cannot really manage. Basically it was close with Kimi. He did what he had to do to not let me pass. I went a little bit on the outside and got the marbles on the tyres and then I struggled to recover. It is what it is."
Though, the Enstone based team has performed amazingly well in the season until now, however, they have not been able to score a race win as they have not improved their qualifying performance.
Nevertheless, the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier has recently said that now their main concern is to make the considerable developments to enhance their qualifying pace for the forthcoming races so as to improve their position in this year’s championship
fight.
