A detailed look at legendary Michael Schumacher’s profile after his Formula 1 comeback
Legendary Michael Schumacher made his comeback in Formula 1 with great motivation and energy, couple of years back after he took his retirement back in 2006 with Mercedes AMG Petronas.
However, he struggled during the first year of his return and was completely outperformed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg and finished at ninth place in the drivers’ championship with 72 points. Moreover, his best performances during the season were his three-time
fourth place finishes in Spanish, Turkish and Chinese Grands Prix.
Nevertheless, he reasonably improved his performance in 2011 and secured 8thplace in the overall drivers’ standings behind his compatriot, Rosberg. Furthermore, he delivered his best performance in Canadian GP where he finished at fourth position which was
the team’s best result too.
In 2012, the veteran German secured an impressive 4th place in the grid for the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. Conversely, he was retired in the race and could not score even a single point.
Besides, in the second and third race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia and Shanghai International Circuit in China, he started the race from third and second place. Contrarily, he could not convert his competitive grid position into a podium
finish in any of the races and ended at 10th position in the Malaysian GP while retired in the race at China.
Additionally, he showed a convincing performance in the race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir as he finished at 10th position after starting from 22nd grid position.
He is standing at 18th place in the drivers’ championship in the season so far with only 2 points. On the other hand, Rosberg is way ahead of Schumacher with 35 points at 6th place.
It will be important to mention that Mercedes has emerged as one of the most competent contenders in this year’s championship as they have a perfect blend of talent and experience with an innovative DRS-activated F-duct design of W03.
In addition, the record championship holder has expressed that he is looking forward to perform well in the season ahead after his tenth place finish in the last race at Sakhir. He also said that the tyre management is very crucial for success in this season.
He added that they are focusing on in-season test which is to be held at Mugello circuit, next week so as to make the essential developments and the significant preparations for the races ahead in order to enhance the pace of W03.
“Considering where I started the race today, it's a positive that I was able to fight up to 10th place, score a point and finish a dry race this season,” he said. “The tyres obviously played a large part in the race today, and in the conditions here, we
had to adapt the driving style to keep the tyres together. It will be good to have the time now before Barcelona to sort out some issues and prepare our updates for the test days in Mugello.”
Meanwhile, the team principal of Mercedes, Ross Brawn said that Schumacher performed quite convincingly in the fourth race as he manage to finish at 10thplace after starting from almost the end of the grid. Moreover, he said that they are aiming to improve
their car’s setup for the European season and are hopeful for the upcoming races.
