A detailed look at the Formula 1 team, Red Bull Racing – Part 1
Red Bull Racing are one of those few teams that have ascended at a pace that only a few teams were able to do.
RBR have secured 1 constructors and 1 drivers’ titles in just a matter of 5 years.
The team became a part of the sport back in 2005 when many teams like Renault, who are also one of those teams that ascended in terms of performance in a very short amount of time, were starting to flourish in the sport.
2005 was the year when Renault finally ended Ferrari’s 5-year long championship reign.
However, Red Bull started off like most of the mid-running teams of the sport after the energy drink makers bought the team Jaguar Racing and appointed Christian Horner as its team principal making him the youngest team principal in the history of the sport.
Later on in 2006, the legendary technician Adrian Newey, who has helped teams like Williams and McLaren in securing titles, also became a part of RBR after which the team started to show its true capability.
Nevertheless, the team’s debut year in the sport was quite satisfying as well as the team signed drivers like David Coulthard, a former McLaren driver and Christian Klien as its full season drivers.
RBR secured the 7th place in the constructors’ standings after scoring a healthy 34 points. The team initially used Cosworth engines and instantly, the team was known as a mid-running team rather than a back-running team.
The following year, the team secured similar results but this time, they were using Ferrari engines instead of Cosworth engines. This year was a bit disappointing for them as they were unable to improve their performance which was quite frustrating for Christian
Horner at first.
But since the team already got itself into this problem, there was no turning back as a result of which, they decided to make a major change and that was changing their engine suppliers once again.
This time, RBR signed with Renault and now, it seems that it was one of their best decisions. The team’s car clearly suits Renault engines more as Adrian Newey’s car designing and strategy is more reliant on aerodynamics.
Other than that, the team also signed Mark Webber alongside David Coulthard and their combination was quite suitable for the team as well as both of them are quite experienced.
As a result, the team secured the 5th place in 2007 after scoring 24 points with the help of a podium. This was a massive improvement in the team’s overall performance and it seemed now that they even have the capability of defeating mid-running
teams.
The following year on the other hand was quite disappointing for the team yet again as they once again secured the 7th place in the constructors’ standings after scoring 29 points with the help of a podium.
However, this was just the beginning of an amazing journey for the team as the team kept flourishing after that and because of this tough time, they were able to improve and are now known as one of the world champions in Formula 1.
