A detailed look at the career of Brazilian Rubens Barrichello in Formula 1
Rubens Barrichello became a part of Formula 1 back in 1993 after he joined Jordan and secured two points in his first season.
He finished in 18th place in the drivers’ standings and back then, no one knew that he would be one of the best supporting drivers for teams like Ferrari and that he would make a record of competing in the most Formula 1 races to date.
Barrichello drove for Jordan until 1996 and during that time, he scored some good results as well. The team was more of a back-running mid team and scoring points consistently for them was quite impressive. The Brazilian driver scored his best results with
the team back in 1994 when he scored 19 points to secure the 6th place in the drivers’ standings.
During the 1995 season, he had a downfall as he secured the 11th place. However, the 1996 season was pretty good for him once again as he finished in 8th place in the standings after scoring 14 points as a result of which he was offered
a spot at Team Stewart.
Rubens decided to join them in 1997 after which his performance started to improve after two disappointing seasons.
Barrichello scored the 7th place in the 1999 Formula 1 season after which he joined Ferrari. It was with the Scarlet car that his career started to flourish even more. The Brazilian driver secured the 4th place in his first Formula
1 season with Ferrari and played a major role in the team’s first constructors’ title after a number of years.
He then started to dominate the sport alongside his teammate Michael Schumacher who secured five Formula 1 championships in a row and made history. The team secured five constructors’ titles successfully as well and this was considered as both Schumacher
and Barrichello’s peak time.
The Williams driver stayed with Ferrari for 6 years and his best performance during this time was in the 2004 season when he secured the second place in the drivers’ standings with 114 points.
The following year was the most disappointing year for him with the team as he secured just 38 points to finish in the 8th place in the standings.
After that, the Brazilian driver decided to join Honda and stayed with them for 3 years. The 2006 Formula 1 season was his best season with the team statistically as he finished in 7th place after scoring 30 points.
However, the following two years were extremely disappointing for him. Especially the 2007 Formula 1 season as he did not even secure a single point throughout the season making it his most disappointing performance in the sport.
In 2009 however, he joined BrawnGP and proved once again that he can still deliver amazing results. The Brazilian driver finished in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings after scoring 77 points and helped the team secure the constructors’ standings
quite affectively.
He then decided to leave the team to join Williams and since then, he has been driving for them.
Barrichello finished in 10th place in the drivers’ standings in the 2010 Formula 1 season and in 2011, he has not been able to perform as effectively as he did for the team before.
He has just secured 4 points but one has to admit that it is the team’s fault more as they have not been able to come up with the best possible car for its drivers for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
