A detailed look at the career of MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo – MotoGP
Yamaha Factory Racing team rider Jorge Lorenzo entered the MotoGP World Championship in 2008 and has convinced every one of his racing abilities to date.
He has been successfully able to attain some convincing place among the leading riders of championship in his career.
Starting his racing career at an early age of 15, the young Spanish proved himself in 125 and 250cc World Championships before racing for MotoGP. Racing for around 5 years (2002-2007) the rider attained 279 and 768 points in 125cc World Championship and
250cc World Championship, respectively.
At MotoGP, Lorenzo made it to the podium in a race among his first three races and took the record from his rival Dani Pedrosa, of team Honda in a single day. He was side by side by Pedrosa but he had to face several accidents and therefore he could not
make it among the top three in championship. He attained 190 points after Pedrosa at 249 points who was at that time holding third place in the championship. Being a young rider, he acquired many records in his first year of racing.
In the following year, 2009, he was able to attain more championship points than Pedrosa. By the end of season 2009, he had acquired 261 points whereas Pedrosa had only acquired 234. Until now, Pedrosa has not able to exceed his championship points than
those of Lorenzo.
2010 was a year of joys for the Spaniard he made his to the championship that year and made it by substantial difference at 383 points over the runner up at 245 points. There were only two grands prix in which he was unable to make it to podium, Motorland
Aragon Grand Prix and Japan Grand prix.
Lorenzo started registering his wins from second place in the very first Qatar Grand Prix in season 2010 after qualifying at 3rd place. In the following two races at Spain and France he was convinced at nothing less than the victory of the race defeating
Dani Pedrosa at Spanish Grand Prix and Valentino Rossi, his teammate at the French Grand Prix.
In the Italian Grand Prix, season 2010, Dani Pedrosa was able to snatch the victory from Lorenzo but only until the following British Grand Prix. Lorenzo was able to get convincing victories in the three following grands prix until German Grand Prix, where
he could only make it to the second place. The trend of ups and downs continued for Lorenzo, among the top four places, over the year and eventually he registered the championship in his name for the season 2010.
In the following year 2011, the Spanish rider was not able to get the riders’ championship but however, he was able to make it as runner up with 260 points against 350 points of Casey Stoner of Honda because he had missed two races in that season. This was
year in which his teammate Rossi did not signed his contact with Yamaha and joined Ducati.
In the current 2012, season Lorenzo has never finished outside the top three except for one occasion at the Dutch Grand Prix where he was not classified because he faced an incident. Despite not getting a single point at Assen, Lorenzo still leads the riders’
championship with 205 points. He is followed by his old rival, Pedrosa at 182 points.
