A detailed look at the history of Formula 1 team, Force India – Part 2
Force India, with team principal Vijay Mallya became a part of Formula 1 in 2008 and with the help of drivers like Giancarlo Fisichella, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil, the team improved with each year and they are still on the up statistically.
However, Fisichella left the team in 2010 and the team signed Paul di Resta as their test driver after making Liuzzi as one of their full season drivers.
Since the team had recently signed a long-term deal with Mercedes as their engine suppliers as well, it seemed that these engines suited their car a lot.
Force India’s cars until the 2009 season were all-rounder cars but a little bit slow on the fast tracks at first.
In 2010 however, the team improved its car even more as a result of which, the team finished in 7th place in the constructors’ standings with the help of 65 points. The team did not secure a single podium or pole position though
but still they were quite competitive.
Adrian Sutil started to prove that he is very competitive after which the team decided to keep him for the 2011 Formula 1 season while Liuzzi had to leave the team.
The team followed its previous strategy and decided to sign another test driver after promoting its test driver Paul di Resta as a full season driver.
The team signed Nico Hulkenberg as its test driver which was quite disappointing for a driver like Hulkenberg since he scored a pole position and some really good results in his debut season in the sport.
He was a part of Williams in 2010 and scoring such results for a team like Williams which was not as competitive as it used to be was a huge achievement.
Other than that, he had to drive alongside a competitive teammate like Rubens Barrichello and since Barrichello was also unable to score a pole position with the team, Hulkenberg’s results were appreciated a lot.
Despite all this praise, the team decided to get rid of him in order to sign Pastor Maldonado but it seems now that Hulkenberg might have a bright future with Force India since they are more competitive than Williams now.
Williams had their worst start to a Formula 1 season in 2011 while Force India flourished even more and scored some pretty good results.
The team has qualified into the Q3 round of the qualifying session which is extremely impressive as the Q3 round is between the 10 fastest drivers of a specific race weekend.
Paul di Resta has proved to be a major asset for the team while Adrian Sutil has maintained his momentum yet again and he is going pretty good as well up until now.
Mallya has even brighter ideas for the team in the future and despite the fact he is being criticised by some of the people from his own country, he still believes that he is in the sport to score the best possible results and he is determined to take the
team to the top in the future.
