A detailed look at the performance of Red Bull Racing in 2012 Formula 1 season until now
Red Bull Racing are presently leading the constructors’ championship with 146 points and they are 38 points ahead of their main rival, McLaren. Despite facing difficulties during the start of the season, they have still been deemed as the most favourite
contender for this year’s championship.
Moreover, their pair of drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, is just 3 points behind the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari in drivers’ championship.
Regardless of struggling in the last pre-season test, Vettel secured an impressive second podium finish in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after starting the race from 6th place in the grid.
Conversely, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, although he began from 5th grid position, however, he could not score even a single point due to his collision with Narain Karthikeyan of HRT.
Later, in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China, he performed quite convincingly as he secured 5th place finish after setting off from 11th grid position.
The two-time world champion took his first victory of this season in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit after claiming pole position.
Afterwards, in the fifth race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, he came 6thafter starting the race from 7th place in the grid. Furthermore, he performed reasonably well in the last race at Circuit de Monaco as he secured 4th place finish after he qualified
for 9th grid position.
On the other hand, his teammate, Webber has been one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far. He secured an impressive fourth place finish in the first four races. Contrarily, he could not pocket any point in the Spanish GP as he came 11th after
qualifying for the same grid position.
Nonetheless, he took an amazing victory in the sixth race after he claimed the pole and emerged as the sixth different winner in the season so far.
The defending champions are trying their best to make the necessary developments and the significant preparations in order to improve the pace of their car for the races ahead so as to defend their championship title.
In addition, the team principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner said that it is very hard to make any kind of projections for the approaching races as there have been six different winners in the first six races.
Besides, he said that the Spaniard, Alonso who is at the top of drivers’ rankings is going to be their main rival throughout the upcoming season
“You've got Fernando three points ahead of our two drivers. It's so open, you've got six or seven drivers that are all in serious contention,” he said.
Over and above, he said that they are eagerly looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian GP which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
“In Canada last year we came within a lap of winning that race after it went on for about four or five hours, so it would be great to put that right. Montreal, horsepower is crucial there, it's as different from Monaco as you can possibly get, it always
produces great races so we will go there and attack the weekend as best we can. Who knows how competitive we will be,” he said.
