A detailed look at the profile of Formula 1 team, Hispania Racing Team
Hispania Racing Team recently became a part of Formula 1 in 2010 alongside two other teams Team Lotus and Virgin Racing Team.
Neither of these teams has been able to score good results up until now and they still are struggling to cope up with the rest of the teams in the sport.
HRT are using Cosworth engines since 2010 and the main problem with the team has been that they have not been able to improve their performance in terms of grid pace as the rest of the teams on the grid including their rivals VRT and Team Lotus have been
moving forward. HRT have not been able to improve or cope up with the rest of the teams at all.
VRT and Team Lotus have been improving their performance since their respective debuts as they are now quite close to each other’s pace and the mid-running teams as well.
Either way, the three new teams have still not been able to defeat the mid-running teams of the sport or secure a single point up until now.
HRT joined the sport with its hopes high in 2010 and after signing drivers like Christian Klien, Sakon Yamamoto, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok, the team finished at the tail end of the constructors’ standings of the 2010 Formula 1 season. Following the
results, there were a lot of rumours that the team might not stay as a team in Formula 1.
The team faced some major financial crisis after the 2010 Formula 1 season and it seemed that they might be forced to leave the Formula 1 grid. There were rumours later on that many teams even applied for a spot on the Formula 1 grid as a replacement for
HRT but with due time, HRT’s financial state improved and they secured their spot on the grid.
Since the team gained some ground financially after that as well, they were hoping of scoring some very good results in the 2011 Formula 1 season but the main problem they faced was that all of their drivers left the team.
The team was not bothered by this much as they wanted to sign more experienced drivers that would help them in improving the team and since their first drivers’ line-up was not as ‘experienced’ as they wanted, this was a good chance for the team.
Therefore, the team decided to sign Vitantonio Liuzzi and Narain Karthikeyan alongside test driver Daniel Ricciardo.
This was a very mixed drivers’ line-up as they had a very young and talented driver Ricciardo as well who was a part of the Red Bull’s young drivers’ school and he is considered to be one of Red Bull Racing’s first choices if they have to replace Mark Webber
in the future.
The team had a very disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season as they were unable to qualify at some races as well making them the only team not to qualify for any race in 2011.
However, the team is trying its best to improve its performance and stay as a part of the sport in the future as well but if they keep performing like this and do not take their performance to the next step, they won’t be able to achieve their goals.
