A detailed look at the success story of Spain at 2012 CEV Champions League
With an immaculate play in the Pool A of 2012 CEV Champions League, Spanish national volleyball team earned an honourable spot in the group.
Spaniard took a trip to Greek City Katerini and appeared in a total of three matches during the first leg of the tournament. They performed amazingly well and did not allow anyone to hinder their performance. The consistent behaviour enabled the team to
complete the winning streak of three matches and got hold of the top slot in Pool A.
Spain defeated hosts Greece in the opening match and did the same treatment to Slovakia in the second match. Greeks used many different tactics to put pressure on the visiting Spaniards but all their effort went futile as Spain did not show any sign of intimidation.
Likewise, Slovak team tried to stop Spain but failed to do so. The charged-up Spaniards rounded of the first flight by giving a hard-knock to Israel on day-3.
The Israeli head coach Zohar Bar Netzer openly admitted the better status of Spanish team and called it the strongest team of the group.
The Spanish mentor Fernando Munoz Benitez said, “The result is anyway good for us and we would like to stretch our positive series to six wins next week in Spain as we play Denmark for the first time, the team that was resting this weekend.”
Despite the fact that Spain played away from home, the team did not show any weakness. In the running week, Spain is the host of the tournament. The second leg is currently underway in Spanish city Teruel. A total of six matches are scheduled to be played
and then the tournament will make its next stop in Israel.
The Spanish team is enjoying a great rhythm and tone. Moreover, the emotional support of local fans has further enhanced the performance of the team. Spain is tipped to maintain its dominance in the group.
The duo of Iban PEREZ and José Migue SUGRANES MARTINEZ has supported the Spanish team with maximum points. Perez is one of the key players in team. In the last three matches, he did an amazing job and always finished the top-three scorers. In the second
week, Spain is set to take on Denmark, Greece, and Slovakia respectively.
