A detailed performance analysis of Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg in 2012 Formula 1 seasonNico Rosberg had promised much for the 2012 season but has failed to achieve much more than recording his maiden Grand Prix win in the season.Mercedes from the onset looked like a team to be feared as other rival teams had already stated that Mercedes will be a strong force in the season as they have managed to come up with a competitive car.The team showed the potential in the qualifiers of the first few races. The win for Rosberg in China forecasted better things to come from the team but the team has had an up and down season so far.Rosberg like his veteran teammate Michael Schumacher was looking to prove a lot in the current season but for one reason or another they have witnessed disappointment. The team went from potentially challenging the top teams to barely making the top five at this stage.Rosberg started his season without any points scored at the Australian Grand Prix followed by another poor pointless race in Malaysia. He showed good promise at the Chinese Grand Prix by getting the maximum points he could achieve from the race.Bahrain gave a mediocre result for the German but hopes for the team were still high for better results to come. Rosberg only managed 6 points from the Spanish GP but Monaco was much better for him as he managed to get a podium finish and score 18 points from the race.Monaco gave Rosberg a good boost to his overall points tally and he looked like a driver who can move up the ranks and fight for the top three spots possibly but a series of poor results awaited him and the team in the races to come.He managed only 8 points from the Canadian GP and equal number of points from the European Grand Prix. The British Grand Prix was even more disappointing for Rosberg as he remained pointless in the race finishing 15th his worst finish of the season.Rosberg hoped to get better results at his home Grand Prix in Germany but the young driver only managed a single point from the race a very disappointing result. The Hungarian GP produced similar results as Rosberg again finished 10thscoring a single point from the race bringing his overall tally of points before the summer break to 77 points.Rosberg is now placed sixth in the drives’ championship behind Kimi Raikkonen at fifth with 116 points the gap has widened between him and the fifth place position so at this point it will be a good result for the German to be able to finish in the top five. The team left for the summer break knowing that they have much to work on as the Mercedes car lacked pace and are in danger of being displaced by sixth placed Sauber in the Constructors Championship. It will be interesting to see how Rosberg and company manage to improve their performances after coming back from the summer break.Disclaimer: The views expressed in this article are solely of the writer’s and do not reflect bettor.com’s official editorial policy.
