A detailed profile of Mercedes AMG driver Michael Schumacher – Formula 1
Michael Schumacher is a German Formula 1 driver who has given more than twenty years of his life to the sport.
Schumacher started his racing career with kart racing and he made his debut for the Formula 1 racing in 1991 when he joined the Jordan Ford team. The driver is known for covering fast laps in most important moments in a race. He is also famous for driving
superbly under dire conditions like wet race tracks during rains. Schumacher has competed in thirty races that took place under wet conditions and won seventeen out of them. This earned him German nicknames that translated to ‘rain king’ or ‘rain master’.
His more common nicknames include ‘Schumi’, ‘Schuey’ and ‘Schu’.
The driver has not spent these two decades of his life just earning nicknames but is one of the most historic drivers in Formula 1. During his extensive career, Schumacher scored various records including becoming the youngest doubles champion of his own
time. He has the honour of securing superb race victories and pole positions throughout his career. He also won the most races in a single season when he earned thirteen race victories in the 2004 F1 season.
After one year of joining the Jordan Ford team, he joined the Benetton and went on to winning his first ever drivers’ title with them in 1994. However, that season was filled with unfortunate events that included Ayrton Senna’s death which was witnessed
by Schumacher himself as he was in the second place behind him. The win was also surrounded in controversy when many teams and especially Schumacher’s own team was accused of violating the technical regulations of the sport.
In 1995, the driver was successful at winning the drivers’ title once again and then he joined team Ferrari for the next year. Schumacher reawakened the glory for the team as he struggled to bring them in the limelight again. He finished third in the F1
championship that year. In 1998, Schumacher fought for the title until the last race where he lost the title to Mika Hakkinen.
The start of the 21st century brought the best period of Schumacher’s career as he won not only the drivers’ title from 2000 to 2002 consecutively but earned the constructors’ tile for Ferrari in each of the above mentioned years. By this time he had won
five championships in total and then won his sixth title in 2003 despite having a bad start to that year’s season. He won his seventh and last drivers’ title in 2004.
In 2006, he took the fight for the title to the last race where he lost to Fernando Alonso. The driver then announced his retirement from the sport at the end of that year. He remained away from driving until the next three years but was appointed by Ferrari
to assist the new team CEO Jean Todt. His job included choosing future drivers for the team.
To much surprise of the Formula 1 community, Schumacher returned to the sport in 2010. He joined the Mercedes team under the new team principal Ross Brawn. Ever since his comeback, he has not been able to perform the way he is expected to. He scored his
first podium finish ever since coming out of retirement this season which he thinks was a respite from all the speculation.
However, the driver has once again confirmed his retirement by the end of this season and does not plan to come back this time. He also advises other drivers not to make the same mistake. He has been appreciated as the second greatest F1 driver after Ayrton
Senna.
