A detailed round up of Williams driver Pastor Maldonado
Pastor Maldonado has been with Williams since 2011 and although he was not able to show much of his potential in 2011 he made up for it in 2012.
The Venezuelan driver managed only a single point from the 2011 season as Williams did not have a competitive enough car. The team however managed to come up with a much better car in 2012. Still no one was expecting a Grand Prix win form the team and Maldonado
stunned the Formula 1 world by claiming his maiden victory at the Spanish GP.
Since his win, though the Venezuelan has not been able to repeat his performance and is having major issues with his driving behaviour. The driver has been found to be involved in several altercations with other cars on the grid since his win.
The first few incidents were shrugged off as inexperience or over ambitious behaviour, but it has become more and more frequent as the season has progressed and other drivers are showing concern over his driving behaviour.
Maldonado has been involved in a few altercations and he has been found out to be the instigator in almost all of them. The latest was when Sergio Perez got involved in a crash with the Venezuelan. Perez was critical of Maldonado and claimed that his tactics
were wild and dangerous for the sport. He added that most drivers are afraid of him because of driving behaviour.
Pastor Maldonado has said that the mistakes he has made in the current season are normal for a young driver who coming through the ranks.
He added that this is nothing but a learning curve for him and he believes that these mistakes are going to transform him into a better and more consistent driver.
The mistakes and penalties he has received since his win at the Spanish GP have resulted in the Venezuelan not being able to score a single championship point since. Maldonado’s team-mate Bruno Senna has not been able to score many points yet, he has 24
points with the highest number of points scored in a race were six. Maldonado has only had two races where has scored the win at the Spanish GP and four points at the Chinese GP.
Maldonado’s driving behaviour has caused his team to lose out on vital points as well. The team is placed 7th but could have managed to be in the hunt for sixth place if Maldonado had been able to convert his good starts to the races into good finishes as
well.
Maldonado needed the summer break more than most of other drivers, and it will provide a cooling period for him. It will be important to notice how he returns from the break and whether he has actually learned from his mistakes or is ambitions take the best
of him and he ends up the season with more accidents and crashes.
