  1. 1.  It can increase flooding in the surrounding areas - loss of water storage.  The "flashiness" of stormwater increases when it is not allowed to naturally infiltrate the ground or be stored in a wetland.  The flood water gets displaced and can increase in surrounding and downstream areas.

    2.  It can reduce water quality in the surrounding areas - loss of natural wetland water filtration, increase of urban runoff

    3.  Loss of animal and plant habitat and diversity

other effects of this type of development:

    4. Possible loss and/or contamination of groundwater.  Rainwater does not get to infiltrate into the ground and instead gets shot off the site through storm sewers.

    5. Increase of the detrimental edge effect for any remaining natural areas.

    6.  Increase of nearby development

    7.  Increase in heat island effect

    8.  Loss of ecological greenway

    etc.

  2. It would effect the plant and wildlife of that wetland, which could cause the extinction of those things, and drive them further away of there natural surroundings, it would provide a plus to the economy of the area/
