If you don't plan to race, something like a used XR80 would be cheaper than the same year model CR and it would be a more reliable bike with less maintenance but would not be nearly as fast.

you wont get a bike that is better but cheaper you get what you pay for im afraid

That would depend upon what use you wanted to put the bike to and anything that is not one of the known brand may well be cheaper but you would not say better in the same sentence.
