A double win for Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step at the Chrono Des Nations 2012 with Tony Martin and Sylvain Chavanel securing the top two spots
After having an outstanding season, Tony Martin of Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep continuoued his tremendous form to bag yet another victory at the Chrono Des Nations 2012.
The cyclist registered a convincing win at the 48.5 kilometre race and occupied the top podium position restricting his teammate, Sylvain Chavanel at the second position.
Chavanel fell 41 seconds short and achieved the second position, while Taylor Phinney of Team BMC, Jeremy Roy of Team FDJ-BigMat and Laszlo Bodrogi of Team Type 1 claimed the third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Martin is enjoying terrific legs, returning from his second consecutive victory at the Tour of Beijing 2012.
His other performances this year include the World Time Trial Championships, World Team Time Trial Championships, National Team Time Trial Championships, overall victories and a stage each at the Tour of Belgium and the Tour of Beijing 2012.
The German finished second overall at the Volta ao Algarve and fifth overall at the Tour of the Basque Country.
His recent victory at the last European race of the season, Chrono des Nations wrapped up a perfect season for the young cyclist.
"I had a really nice feeling. I had some jetlag after China but today I felt fine. We were lucky with the weather but it was a nice win and I'm happy,” Martin told Cyclingnews after the race.
"It's difficult to say whether this is my best form. In China I had really good condition and for me I wish the season could continue. It's always nice to finish with a win".
"It was really painful out there, it’s a course where if you go a little too hard in the first part you pay in the end," he concluded.
Carlos Oyarzun of Chile, Manuele Boarre of Team Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank, Gustav Larsson of Team Vacansoleil-DCM, Loic Desriac of Team Roubaix and Franck Vermeulen of Team Vérandas Rideau-U secured the next five positions respectively.
Fredrik Kessiakoff of Team Astana was looking good but the Swede missed a top-ten finish after he was dropped 1 second behind of Franck Vermeulen of Team Verandas Rideau-U.
Gregor Gazvoda of Team Ag2r-La Mondiale finished 12th with Dario Cataldo of Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep, Romain Bacon of Team Auber 93 and Tomasz Marczynski of Team Vacansoleil-DCM claiming the next four spots respectively.
