I'm unsure as to what I should use to clean the mattress, and the urine didn't soak all the way through the mattress (to the other side). I absorbed as much as possible standing on towels on my mattress, and then I soaked the mattress in 409. I wonder if I should have the mattress professionally cleaned or throw it away. Hopefully I won't have to throw it away as it is a nice mattress.

  1. she needs to buy you a new mattress

  2. Things You’ll Need:

    Several soft cloths

    Carpet or upholstery cleaner

    Baking soda

    Step1

Open the windows in the room to get the air moving and to help dry the mattress. Turn on a ceiling or oscillating fan as well.

    Step2

Soak up as much of the urine as you can with a dry towel.

    Step3

Clean the mattress with a carpet and upholstery cleaner. Scrub with a soft cloth and then soak up any excess fluids with a dry towel.

    Step4

Let the mattress air dry. This may take about 24 hours, depending on how wet it was.

    Step5

Spray the mattress with an odor remover spray. Be sure and cover the entire area and a little bit outside of it.

    Step6

    Let the mattress dry.

    Step7

Sprinkle baking soda on the mattress if it still smells. Let it sit for 24 hours and then vacuum it off.

    Tips & Warnings:

Try putting a plastic mattress cover over the mattress if your you have frequent accidents.

Wait until the mattress is completely dry before using the odor remover spray.

Do not mix cleaning products. They can have chemical reactions that can be harmful or fatal.

  3. Maybe you should try using nail polish remover. TRUST ME! It works. Same thing happened to me and I tried it and it just went right away. Best of luck!

  4. I've never tried it on a mattress, but when one of my dogs pees on my carpet, I use one of the many products that will neutralize the urine and completely take away the smell.  You can buy these products from vets, pet stores, country feed stores and even places like Walmart.  I found my last bottle at Walmart in the section that had bug spray -- like to kill ants or bees, lol!

According to most of the bottles I've use (there are many different brands, but they pretty much do the same thing) you simply soak the area and let it air dry.  So, if you could soak the mattress and then stand it on it's side so it can get air on both sides of the mattress it will help it to dry quicker.  Although it may still take a couple of weeks.
