A felony weapons charge can prevent me from volunteering at the Zoo?

Explain this? No one got hurt, and it was between two grown men. No prison time, knock on wood, and all I want to do is help out at the Zoo on my days off. lol

And it's supervised by the City, that is why they need a background check. I am still going to try, but I'm a little bitter.

  1. There probably scared you'll smoke the animals!  I know it's not fair and you probably regret what you did, but what if a chimp threw a handful of sh** at you?  I would want to shoot it also, but since you have a felony, they are sure you would cap it!

  2. They cannot have true insight into your character and so, like all of us, they have to rely on external indicia of your character.  A conviction for a felony involving the use of weapons doesn't say all there is to know about your character, but it may be the best info available.

  3. You actually answered your own question-- its run by the City.

And the City is run by lawyers who are always seeing "liability" in everything and anything.

Government is harshly impersonal.  They don't care about the details of your conviction, only that you have one...

Can you volunteer at a privately run animal shelter?  (Just a thought)

    Good luck!

  4. As long as you were never arrested for poaching or hunting out of season you should be fine.
