Question:

A fever with no other symptoms?

My 2 1/2 year old is running a fever today. At 4:30am it was 101.2. We gave him Tylenol and it went down to normal after a few hours. Now it's 101.4. There are no other symptoms and he felt good enough to play for awhile this morning. Now he's sleeping since he got up so early. I will take him to the doctor if it gets higher (or starts having other symptoms) and will take him tomorrow if the fever refuses to go down. I'm curious as to what this could be since he doesn't seem to be in any pain? Anyone else with this experience?

  1. It happens all the time.  It's a virus and you need to let it runs it course.

  2. could be his 2 year molars coming in.

  3. It's probably just his body fighting off a virus.

  4. When you have a fever it means that your body has an infection and it is fighting it off. It could be just a lil virus or something. As long as you keep a close watch on it then he will be okay. But if he starts vomiting, having diarrhea etc then take him to the doctor.

  5. It could be Coxsackie virus.  http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/...

  6. I have a 2 1/2 year old and it's happened too.  Eventually it just goes away by its own.  Our daughter throws up and gags on medicine so giving medicine is a waste of time for us.  I put her in a cool bath, which she hated of course, and it brings the fever down.

Also, has she ever had roseolo (spelling wrong I think).  It starts off as a fever for 1 or 2 days, then she gets a rash on her trunk of her body and sometimes the face.  Both my kids had it a little younger, but I think you can get it up to 3 years old.  If this is it, don't worry. It goes away without medication or a doctor's visit.
