Golf has always been played with aggressive enmity by many professionals but travelling back in history tells us that they didn’t have that rivalry with the pounds in any way. Fitness was considered to be a useless proceeds since that would give way to a
new range of swings and drives being completely different to the golfer.
As for lifting weights, they were shunned and were considered a foolish act. It had been a common belief that weights would make the turns difficult and they wouldn’t be the same they were before.
In the current times, there have been rather one too many highly ‘successful’ golfers that have climbed to the top of the world rankings without precipitating that much. The following list consist 23 more golfers that succeeded even with those few extra
pounds.
JoAnne Carner:
The professional female golfer was known as ‘Big Mama’ and was initially nicknamed as ‘Great Gundy’. Carner stands at the third last place in the list of those who preferred skipping the vigour van.
The now 71-year-old female golfer has collected 43 LPGA wins 3 of which are LPGA majors. She was included in the World Golf Hall of Fame and grabbed the LPGA Tour of the year award in 1974, 1981 and 1982.
Billy Casper:
Moving up the list, Casper makes his mark at the successful non-petite list through 51 PGA Tour titles.
The 79-year-old has a total of 7 international victories and 10 Champions Tour titles that makes him top every list in the world. He is considered as one of the most favourite golfers. The America carded The Vardon Trophy 5 times and has grabbed victories
against golfers like Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus.
Laura Davies:
At spot number twenty one, Davies makes her name through 81 professional wins. She has grabbed the LPGA Tour 20 times, the Ladies European Tour 44 times, the LPGA of Japan Tour 6 times, the Ladies Asian Golf Tour 2 times and the ALPG Tour 6 times.
Her total counts of Tours are only a 7 event deficit from the top player Kathy Whitworth who has the lead in LGPA in total. Davies is most famous because of her legendary distance.
Lee Trevino:
One spot above Davies is Trevino who was far from resistant training or even exercise for that matter. He has collected 29 PGA Tour titles and 29 Champions Tour victories. With six majors, the golfer who was hit by lightning in the year 1975 at Western Open
stands just below Hale Irwin in standings when it comes to Tour victories.
The golfer-c*m-entertainer thus has 89 professional victories despite the fact that he had a few extra pounds on him.
Raymond Floyd:
It is not usual for golfers to collect a record that can’t be overtaken by the rest.
Floyd as compared to the rest was a hurricane of an individual as well as a golfer. The 68-year-old is known for attacking the fields violently and was highly famous due to The Stare.
The Florida resident has a total of 22 PGA Tour victories and 11 worldwide titles and as for the Champions Tour wins, he has won that title fourteen times.
With some pounds more than his other competitors, Floyd collected a record that was unique and unmatchable at the same time.
