Question:

A few months ago my dad said he'd get me a new laptop for school. How can I politely make sure he does?

I want to make sure my dad gets me a laptop in the politest, most undemanding way possible, so I don't seem greedy. School (for me, at least) is going to start soon so I don't have a lot of time to drop hints or anything. I also don't want him to go to best buy and grab a laptop from off the shelf or anything, I want to customize my own on-line so I can get all the right features that I want. I'm afraid he might buy a pre-built laptop and surprise me, but I don't want a surprise-I want the features that I like. How should I address this problem?

Thanks for helping me out.

  1. Ask him when he would be ready to go look at lap tops with you. Tell him you want to pick it out because you know what you'll need/want on it.

  2. "So dad,i was looking on the internet and found a laptop that's really good and costs only ___!!!

I think it's great and it will really help with my school homework, what do you think??"

    Maybe sth like that??:S

  3. Do some research and find the one you want. Then bring him the ad or a picture of it and just start talking to him about how great it is and the benefits of having it for school. I'm sure he'll get it.

  4. Write down all the features and programs that you want in your laptop and tell your dad: "Look, dad.  These are the features that one of our professors recommended for our laptops."  Just begin a conversation about laptops and school in a very casual way and try to take it where he asks what you need to have on yours.

  5. Uh, I had the same problem. My mom said I couldnt shop all summer and that she would give me a 1000 dollar shopping spree by the end of summer. I cant figure out how to remind her about it . (I doubt she meant it tho)

Anyways, the best way to address him is to bring a flier or catalogue from  Best Buy or other electronic stores and tell him how great this one is, or what you like about that laptop and what you hate about it. And let him know that since school is starting, you have to start figuring out which one you should buy.

He will get it, and he will also know what you want.

    :)

  6. maybe find one that you like then show it to him and he will be like "oh yeah well let's go get it"

  7. There's nothing wrong with just asking dad if he is still gonna get it.Sometimes adults have a lot of things going on and he may have for got so just ask.

  8. If it's for school, all you should need to do is write papers, do research, and print.

But I'm sure you want the top-of-the-line audio system, fastest processor, best graphics package, gamer's package, etc.

If it's a gift and your dad is buying it for you FOR SCHOOL, he can get you whatever he wants to, and you should be happy about the fact that you're getting a computer that you don't have to buy with your own money.

  9. Talk to him by offering to help out with more around the house etc, in other words, show him you are prepared to earn the laptop as opposed to expecting it- so long as you do actually prove you are working for it this will not only let him know you really do need/want it but you are showing maturity and not having expectations.

  10. well if you don't tell him what you want

then he wont know. i think maybe you

should bring it up to him. be like dad

schools starting soon and a few months

ago you said you would buy me a laptop

and that it would be great to have one customized

and you were nervous to ask because you didn't want

to sound greedy. im sure he would completely

    understand.

  11. Remind him

  12. Just make sure to drop a couple hints on how much it would mean to you if he got it, and how cool you thought he was.  Now-a-days parents can feel "out of the loop" and "uncool", and would do almost anything for you if they thought you'd look at them as awesome parents. If he knows buying this for you would be that big of a deal to you, he peobably will.

  13. "Dad, did you have anything specific in mind yet for that laptop you promised? Because I want to go online and customize one, it doesn't cost extra*, I just want to be sure I get everything I need for school, so I can do my best."

*Idk if it'll cost extra, but if it won't, emphasize that it won't, parents love hearing theres a cheaper alternative

Be sure to empasize that you want to customize one so you'll get a good one to meet your needs in school. Parents also go crazy over seeing their kids extremely interested in doing good in school.

  14. Be a man and ask him staright up or say" Dad u know i really like my room with my own features i think it should be the same with the laptop"
