I know we did not "declare war" with everyone, but which wars have we lost... just vietnam, korean and Iraq??

Also did we ever go to war with Great Britain (ww1 or 2 maybe) or France...

And what other wars if any, did we lose, or pull out of, or call truce...basically wars that arent victories for the US. TIA

  1. you lost vietnam, korea was a draw and iraq isn't over

The only times USA and Britain have gone to war were in 1776, USA victory, and 1812, status quo

  2. The war against the british of 1812 ended in a stalemate.

The Quasi-war with France (1798-1800). French privateering was reduced, but did not end.

The "American Expeditionary Force Siberia" (1918-1920) was pretty much a failure (in the USSR during the Russian civil war)

Bay of Pigs (1961), a CIA-led invasion of Cuba wich failed miserably

    Iranian Hostage crisis of 1980.

Perhaps something with Lybia in the 1980's. Khadafi is still in power, so that's more or less a loss ;).

Mogadishu, 1993 (the movie Black Hawk Down is about this). Allthough not really a defeat, the USA pulled out of Somalia pretty fast...

Cambodia. During the Vietnam war, Cambodia was bombed as well.

If you want to scrutinize things...i think the French (not Vichy but the ones led by DeGaulle) took a few tiny islands in the atlantic against the will of the USA during WW II. The USA did not react. (perhaps they were too tiny to bother, don't remember).

The american civil war, if you want to be a smart *** ;). The ongoing war in Afghanistan probably will be added to the list, eventually.

    That's all i can think off :D

  3. The only war that the United States could be considered to have lost is the Vietnam War. (But that's debatable). The Korean War ended in a cease-fire and was essentially a stalemate (tie).

The Iraq War is still kind of going on (there are insurgent groups still at large), and unless Saddam Hussein comes back from the dead and takes over again, or Iraq descends into chaos within the next few years prior to U.S. troop pullots, then I don't see how it could be considered a defeat for the U.S. In any case, the 2003 invasion and the overthrow of the Baath government was a hugely successful military campaign for the coalition forces. It was the insurgency that posed a problem in 2004 - 2007, but it has largely died down and the new Iraqi government is gaining control.

Early in its history, the U.S. fought the American Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 against Great Britain, and an undeclared naval war against France known as the Quasi-War.

  4. Just those wars. Yes we (Americans) went to war with England in both the American Revlolution and The War of 1812.
