I want a Russian Tortoise and my mom and dad are willing to get one but i have to pay some for half of it... I also have a few questions.

1. How much do they cost? I just want a price range...

2. About what size are they?

3. Are they relatively easy to take care of and not too fragile? (hardy)

4. Do they bite?

5. Are they smelly?

Any website links and other info would be awesome. Thanks!

  1. You might want to watch how u talkin to me ight i don't know you and you sure as h**l don't know me and i'm writing like that because the yahoo question box gives you a certain amount of letters to write!

  2. They cost around $75.00 or so.  Depends on where you get it from.  They get to be about a foot long.  Not fragile.  They can bite but usually don't.  Only smelly if you don't keep habitat clean.

They need large enclosures, heat lamps, UVB reptile lights, fresh salads daily, vitamins, water bowl, etc.  Great site:

  3. 1. Around $100.00 some are cheaper and some will be more expensive, size is a factor in price. The set up or cage can be VERY expensive I spent over $300.00 on a set up for my RedFoot, they require a UVB and UVA bulb, a heat source, a humid hide, fresh fruit and vegies (THEY MUST HAVE FRESH FOOD!!!CAN TORTOISE FOOD IS NOT REALLY GOOD FOR THEM AS IT HAS SOY AND THEY HAVE ISSUES DIGESTING SOY...FEED FRESH FOOD!!!) do NOT feed Kale it is very bad for them, no bananna! All in all it cost about $15-$20 a week to feed ONE tortoise. So if you paid for half it would be arround $250.00.

    2. They grow to 10 inches or so, average is 8.

3.Depends on how much care you are willing to give, they have to be feed almost every day, soaked in warm water almost everyday, and you have to keep there cage clean. Tortoises p**p every day, or after every feeding (my RedFoot) so usally you have to keep them out of there pen untill they poo.

    4. Not that I know of, I have never heard of a tortoise biting someone. But every animal is different and you may have a killer tort on your hands : - )!

    5. Tortoise p**p is VERY smelly, the animal it's self is not, IF it lives in a clean enviroment, free of p**p and uneaten food.

I bought my RedFoot from here, it was great it arrived eating and was in great health, the owner answered all and any question I had!
