  1. I believe you are asking how did man realize that he should mate with woman. There are many chemical reasons, as well as the fact that males of one species are sexually attracted to females at least during mating season. The mechanical aspects are intuitive based on smells and displays.

Puberty is a set of changes that occur in a child during a phase of maturation. Apes undergo such phases, such as male gorillas which develop silver backs, muscles, and cranial features. Remember that Homo sapiens are apes and physiologically are very similar.

    Edit:

Apes tend to undergo more development due to their much longer gestation periods, therefore phase of maturation are better applied to them.

  2. There are plenty of chemical and visual guides for initiating s*x.  It takes no practice, training or education to have s*x though for humans in these circumstance it is not likely to be all that enjoyable for all participants.  It may be clumsy but eventually it will be successful.  Masturbation is a form of experimentation.

Puberty happens in all animals although it may not be called that.  Reproduction is expensive in energy used, time used (s*x, on the other hand can be all too cheap in these terms).

All animals go through a growth stage, adding mass, before reproducing, even one celled animals.  In primates this preparation period is relatively long due in part to the complexity of the animal and in part due to the complexity of living in groups.  IN primates the s*x part of reproduction is easy and cheap but raising offspring long enough so they can reproduce is extremely time consuming.  Childhood is the preparation time for that.

We see human puberty as something special but that is only because we are human.  In fact it is more than common, it is universal.
