A few questions about the Spanish dialect in Guatemala?

I am planning to attend a school in Guatemala soon to become more fluent in Spanish and would like to know more about the dialect there. The school said they teach "Castilian Spanish". Does that necessarily mean that they pronounce their 's's like 'th's, like in Northern Spain? Or is their pronunciation more like Mexico? Also, are many words different or is it mostly the same?

First of all, Spanish is not a dialect it's a language.   Now if they teach Castilian Spanish this means you will learn Spanish the way it is spoken in Northern Spain.  Their pronunciation and accent is different from the rest of the Latin American countries.  Many words will seem different only because each country has their own way of speaking the language. They are saying that because they are going to teach you Spanish without modisms.

If you are not sure about that school, let me tell you that there are a lot of schools here that teach Spanish.

Spanish taught in Guatemala is good, without any accents.

The Z and the C are pronounced in Spain like TH in English.

The difference the Spaniard S and the Latin American S it's the Spaniard accent sound like in English SH while in L.A sound like the English S

Actually there are two ways to call the language, either Spanish or Castillian.

The only difference between L.a Spanish and Spanish from Spain it's just like the American English and the British English.

Example in England when they say BETTER  they would pronounce the TT just like in Spanish, but in America is pronounced like the Spanish R like in the name PeRez.

Any good teacher from any Latin American country will teach you the correct Spanish with the Latin American accent

There is no such thing as a Spanish dialect... Spanish is one of the most richest languages in the world. If the school says that they are going to teach you "Castilian Spanish" means that  you will learn the correct grammar and vocabulary, however, most of the school teach that kind of spanish, therefore try not to be fooled by that kind of advertising.

Guatemala's spanish is probably the most alike to original spanish, there aren't weird pronunciations or words. Obviously, like any other country, it has it modism, but fewer than other countries and I can asssure you that the pronunciation is much better than Mexico or other countries.
