How do I prevent cramps during a race? I remember last track season I did terribly during my last race because of sharp pains on my side.

How long do you keep your training and racing shoes until you replace them?

What time should I eat dinner if I have practice at 6pm? Last time I ate around 5:30 and experienced bloating and shortness of breath during a workout.

  1. You just have to run through the pain with the cramps. Try taking deep breaths when cramping occurs.

Refer to this site for your second question:

You should eat dinner after your run. Eat a good snack about 2 hours before your run.

  2. Okay as far as cramps go... I can only recommed seriosly streching

For the shoes if you wear them strictly for running only.. every 200 miles, if you use them as street shoes also.. 120-150 miles

And for eating eat a small bowl of CARBS ie, pasta, or bread around 3:30 p.m or 4 p.m along with ALOt of water!!!

    HOPE I HELPED!!!

  3. eat a banana about an hour before you run and drink plenty of water the whole day leading up to your race. run relaxed and try to keep your breathing relaxed. that should help prevent cramping

the average is 300-500 miles, or 3-5 months (obviously depending on how often you run and how far).

when i would have practice at 6pm i would eat dinner afterwards, i would rather eat late then feel crappy during practice.

  4. cramps in your side comes from not breathing right. so when you start to feel a stitch coming on get control of your breathing and try to breathe slow and even.

racing shoes or spikes can essentially be worn your whole high school career if they're still in tact. but my xc spikes usually get holes and rips in them so i usually replace them every season. you should replace your training shoes every season.

if you have practice at 6 eat something small around 4. then you can eat dinner when you get home.
