A couple of good motives for arson is intimidation, or covering tracks.

1. Don't know, not that them being on drugs should exhonerate them..

2. Same story.

3. Not sure, but purposely set fires happen a LOT more than accidental/wildfires.  Many of these wildfires are the result of an arsonist.

4. Let's hope not often.

5. Quite often.

6. To collect insurance, to make a murder look like an accident, revenge, etc.
