A few tattoo questions (solid tattoo and over a little freckle)?

So I was never a huge fan of tattoos but I am leaving for boot camp soon and when I get out I figure I should get something as a treat for becoming a marine. I really am not a big fan of the sketch/thin line type tattoos with colors and all that I always see. I was wondering if its bad to get just a solid black tattoo like this image here:

I never see people with solid tattoos (except maybe a few). I personally perfer the branding type look.

Now to the second question. Looking at where I want to tattoo I have two tiny little brown freckle things. I heard these cant be tattooed over but seeing as I was looking for a solid tattoo would it look awkward? People I have seen that had it tattooed around have a little white circle around the freckle. Could I just get it tattooed over or would a good artist just get close enough that you wouldnt even notice.

  1. i wasnt able to view the pic you posted but i think solid black tattoos are still popular and can look just as good as colored ones depending on the design. i have tats covering over freckles and there is no white circle. the tat is solid and except for maybe a slightly raised bump, you cant tell its there. depending on the size, tattoos normally take about 2 weeks to heal so you might be cutting it a little close but that late in the healing process all that matters is that you keep it moisturized so you should be fine.

  2. i have plenty of freckles, and plenty of tattoos never been a problem.  now with a mole, im unsure

  3. Okay hun, black solid tatts look fantastic, i have several as well as cloured ones too. some artists will go over a freckle  as long as its not raised- some will even if it is!! but not a good one, a good one will go around it as closely as it is safe- ask them if they have any pics of tatts they have done around freckles/moles that are raised. the danger in going over them is every freckle could go cancerous and you don't want to go sticking needles and ink to them in case this speeds up the process!! if its a small flat one tho you should be fine to go over

as for healing its a bit different for all of us, after 4 to 8 days the scab starts to flake but it really takes three months for the to completely heal as thye heal from the surface down. the first week it is very fragile, then for a week or two after that its better and not as fragile, but not up to being scratched, picked or rubbed against really. you need to be able to keep it super clean by washing it with soap and water at least three times a day and rub a little cream such as e45 or nappy rash cream into it. really, only a little bit and rub it in well. do not use vasaline. keep it open to the air from when it is two hours old onwards as much as you can, don't cover it with plasters or cling film. during the first two weeks, or longer if theres any scab left you should not go swimming, soak the tatt in the bath or go sunbathing. you will need to use sun block on it for a few mnths if not forrevr to stop the black fading. dont pick it while healing as the fadded patches can really show on a solid black tatt- speaking from experiance and a painfull patch-up job!!

most of all, enjoy your ink and congratulations!!

  4. I have a solid tattoo and they look great!

I had the same idea as you... I wanted to cover a beauty spot, but my tattoo artist refused because it was slightly raised.

If the freckle is just a freckle then you can definitely tattoo over it - but if it's even just slightly raised - it's not a good idea.

This is because the ink might affect the mole/beauty spot and infect it...

  5. Congrats on joining the military.  I have a lot of tats, I guess, for a girl, and I also have been tattood over spots.  As long as they are raised moles, you should be fine, check with the artist, of course they will be able to help you better.

Whatever tattoo you decide on is FINE; thats the beauty of tattoos, if people don't like them, they don't have to look.  I like that tattoo idea in the pic, its cool.  All of my tats are solid, but I prefer colors.

Just to forewarn you, tats are addicting.  I can almost 100% assure you that if you get one, you will get more.

    Good luck.

  6. get whatever tat you want! the whole reason is to express you and no one can tell you if its good or bad, its whatever you want!

freckles you wont see under a tat, if its a raised mole then you will see a bump after the tat is healed but not so noticeable where it would look weird. Healing from a tat is a personal experience, it depends on how you take care of it afterwords and how your body heals in general.

Mine took about a week before it stopped being itchy and flaking. so you should be fine if you have 10 days to heal. And thank you for serving!!!!
