A few years ago I was told I had a birthmark on the back of my eyeball?

This was just during a regular checkup (I'm fairly short sighted)

I can't see it (ie in my peripheral vision) but at the optician asked me look at a circle on a page and say if the edges looked blurry.

I was wondering if anyone had heard of this before

  1. My friend has one .part of her eye is a different color just keep a eye on it and wear sun glass that what the doc. told her. hope that helps

  2. No, I have never head of it but I could imagine that it's possible.

  3. Yes, they are not rare.

Sometimes they come in little groups, then they can be known as a bear-track or cat's paw fundus. (url)

But often they are a single patch like a birthmark or flat mole on the skin.

If there's any suspicion of it not being normal for you, it will be watched, but usually it's pretty obvious, and normal eye appointment intervals are all that are needed  to observe it.

(you can't watch the back of your own eye the way you can mole on your arm)

Given that, it's nothing to worry about.

  4. i knew some one who had a birthmark in the front of their eyeball by the pupil. I thought it was a normal thing. I don't think it interfered with her sight.
