Born on 31st July 1989 in the city of Minsk, the Belarusian professional tennis player, Victoria Azarenka is currently ranked number twelfth in the world after her final victory over Sharapova in the Bank of the West Classic tennis tournament. Apart from her recent title at Stanford, the twenty one years old Victoria has so far grabbed a total of two mixed doubles major trophies back in 2007 at the United States Open championship along with Max Mirnyi as well as at the French Open competition along with her mixed doubles partner, Bob Bryan in 2008.
Talking about her 2010 season, the right handed Victoria started off by participating at the Hong Kong tennis Classic. Victoria was also a part of the Team Europe along with Stefan Edberg as well as Caroline Wozniacki. In her very first clash, she knocked down Gisela Dulko in just a single set. The Belarusian later on could npt participate in the rest of her matches due to ill health.
Victoria afterwards took part at the Medibank International competition where she successfully won her first three clashes, all in a total of three sets and made her way into the semi final round of the tournament. In the semi final battle, Victoria however was knocked down by the fifth seeded player, Elena Dementieva in a total of two sets with a final match score of 6–3, 6–1.
As far as her major championships are concerned, Victoria appeared at the hard court Grand Slam Australian Open tournament as seeded seventh from the women’s side. She successfully made her way till the round number four of the competition where she got the better of Vera Zvonareva in a total of three sets with a final match score of 4–6, 6–4, and 6–0. The victory came as her first one against Vera in a total of five matches. However, the Belarusian tennis ace was defeated by the top ranked American, Serena Williams in a total of three sets at the quarterfinal stage.
Victoria, after the Australian open, participated at the Barclays Dubai Tennis competition and without any difficulty reached the final after bringing down Vera Zvonareva in the quarters and Agnieszka in the semis. However, once again in the major battle, she could not play at her very best and was knocked down by the former number one American tennis player, Venus Williams in a total of two sets.
After the final loss at the Barclays Dubai Tennis competition, Victoria took a break and later on returned at the 2010 BNP Paribas Open tournament, where she was seeded number three. Here Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez was the one who kicked her out in the round number three with a final match score of 7–6(4), 6–2.
At the 2010 clay court Grand Slam French Open competition, Victoria who made her return after injury was knocked down in the round number one match by an un-seeded player, Gisela Dulko in a total of two sets. As a result of this defeat, Azarenka dropped down to as low as number fifteen in the world rankings.
Azarenka appeared at the All England Club this season, seeded number fourteen, for the grass court Grand Slam tournament. She knocked down Mirjana Lucic in the round number one battle and Bojana Jovanovski in her second round clash with a final match score of 6-1 6-4. However, Petra Kvitova later on knocked her down in the round number three of the 2010 Wimbledon in a total of two sets.
As far as her summer hard court performances this year are concerned, Azarenka participated in the 2010 Bank of the West Classic competition, seeded eighth. She started off pretty well and knocked down Ayumi Morita in the first round and Melanie Oudin in the second one, both in a total of two sets. She faced Stosur in her semi final battle and got the better of her with a final match score of 6-2 6-3 to reach the final round where she dismissed the Russian Tennis ace, Maria Sharapova 6-4 6-1 to grab her first title of the year.
