Hi

I was reading about Rafael Nadal's current point tally post wimbledon win, and I became confused when someone mentioned "rafael will lose 250 points"

As of today his ATP ranking is No 2 with 6055 points.

He will not be attending Stuttgard next week (250 points)

Does this mean that 250 will be removed from this present 6055 just because he didn't attend it?

Please explain. Thanks!

  1. No he's not losing any he's just not gaining what that person considered an easy tourny for him to win.

  2. Nadal does lose 250 points from his 6055 because he is not attending Stuttgard.

    Look at it this way:

Nadal earnt 250 points last year after winning the tournament.

To keep these points he must defend them and win it again.

Because he is out of the tournament he can't win the points again, so he loses them and they go to the winner of the tournament this year.

  3. Yes he will be losing 250 points for not attending and defending his Stuttgart title. Maybe he opted to have rest and recover from the exhausting  tennis schedule he had gone through. Since the US hardcourt season and Olympics is coming, he wants to prepare his body and practice hard for mhardcourt tennis play. He is eyeing for the number 1 ranking and possible win all major us open series tournaments, the US OPEN and the TENNIS MASTERS CUP event.
