Pakistan Cricket- A Former Pakistan Cricketer Makes Corruption Revelations
Pakistan’s former cricketer Qasim Omar has made startling revelations regarding the prevalent corruption, drugs and extortion in the game of cricket.
Omar who made his Test debut for Pakistan against arch enemies India in 1984-85 has given explicit details in a book written by a Briton based journalist Brain Radford, in which he has admitted of working with bookies from Asia to help establish contacts
with international players in order to bribe them to play according to the wishes of the bookies.
Omar, who was an opening batsman for Pakistan, represented the country in 31 One Day Internationals while he played 26-Test games for the national side.
In the book which might become a disastrous work of revelations for the world of cricket, the former cricketer has disclosed stories of murder, gambling, kidnappings and prostitution which is plaguing the world of cricket even today.
According to insiders, the player without any fear has named some former bigwigs in the game, of being involved in unimaginable corruption to the highest level.
In his interview, the player admitted of having links with an Australian gang of match-fixers who provided around 20 prostitutes to cricketers as extra benefits in order to buy the players. He has also disclosed how Pakistan players had evaded Air port security
by stuffing illegal drugs in their cricket bats. The cricketer revealed how bottle tops have been used to scratch cricket balls by Pakistan players to help in making the ball to reverse swing.
Giving details about how batsmen have profited from fixing matches, the former cricketer said, “Players have made big money from telling bookies and punters how they would be dismissed. Deliberately giving their wicket away without scoring has always been
the best earner. Being bowled or run out also pays well.”
