A free standing trellis...what's that?

I've been trying to find a way to attach my vinyl trellis to the ground. It's a flimsy looking, but strong 3X6 feet (approx.) trellis from local home supply store.

The problem is that I can't find any way of attaching the thing to the ground. I don't want it anywhere close to my vinyl siding because I have carolina jessamine going up that trellis and it will creep under the siding.

How in the world do you attach a free standing trellis? I've tried stakes and they just blow over. I've researched the web for 2 weeks now...

  1. Head over to the garden department and grab three or four long bamboo poles - they're about ninety nine cents each. Get the ones that are taller than the trellis. Thread the poles through the lattice or trellis slats, and push them firmly into the ground. Slight angle back on one, slight angle sideways on another, etc. It will stand strong in the wind.

    Good luck. - Stuart

  2. The way you do it is fill four coffee cans with cement.

Put the trellis in them then in the ground.

Some construction dudes will tell you to use a post hole digger then cement then trellis but that's not necessary.

Use coffee cans my wife has done trellises alone I kinda think it  should be a two person job because its easier to make sure its level and take turns digging

  3. drive steel stakes into ground next to trellis secure trellis to stakes with wire use at least 4 stakes
