A friend and I will be 3 days in Paris. Any suggestions of nice cafes, restaurants, quartiers, music clubsetc?

Well, for quarters, head over to the Latin Quarter, that's near the Sorbonne and Notre Dame, as there are lots of college students there. This will be a hopping place at night for drinking, partying, clubbing, you name it.  As for restaurants and such, just kind of go on the outskirts, don't go eating on Champs Elysee unless you can spare a couple hundred bucks.  The cafes are expensive there too, just for a cup of coffee its like 20 bucks or something ridiculous like that. I don't know the price, b/c I know its not worth the price for coffee.  

Another great place is up in the Artists district. This is where the Sacred Heart is it.  Cute cafes and places to eat up there, and the atmosphere is beautiful, plus a lovely view of Paris from there.

I know there is a pretty good restaurant over next to Gare De Lyon.  Its out of the main entrance, there is a major bus station on that side, and a restaurant on the corner there that's pretty good. My uncle usually takes me there to eat for dinner as he lives in the area. Mostly a locals restaurant.  The food there is excellent.  I'm usually a glutton for punishment so I tend to stop in pastry shops all the time to try it out.

Near the Pompidu Center there's lots of restaurants in that area as well, its near Chatlet (metro stop) lots of restaurants and shopping along that area.. Check that place out.  Plus the center is neat looking.

I enjoyed a restaurant called the Hippopotamus.  The food was great and the menu was in English and French.  I am not sure if all restaurants are that way.  Also, I had a drink at an on the street cafe' and loved it.  We do not have things like that where I am from. And if you like sweets they have sweet shops on every corner almost and they have really good chocolates and things in there.  I also tried (cant remember the name) but its like a thin pancake and you can get different fillings and that was good.  I bought that at a place on the walk way to the Louve.

Some of my favorites - Place de Vosges and Ile St. louis - really your typical Paris you see in the movies. Victor Hugo's house is at Place de Vosges and Ile St. Louis has the best ice-cream of Paris (Berthillion) and also a great view to the neighboring Notre Dame - another must see.

Definitely go on a boat cruise (bateau) - they have them for lunch and dinner but also a quick ride. You can have a nice meal and get a guided tour of Paris with some French music.

Tons of great cafes - just pick a spot outside and watch the people like Parisians do.

My favorite hangout is Aux Trois Mailletz at 56 rue Galand in the 5th arrondissement. Live music (piano and singers), cool people, friendly staff, and not unreasonable prices. You can hangout all night for the price of a glass of wine.

Polly Magoo around the corner in the rue Saint-Jacques is owned by the same people and is the latest incarnation of long time ex-pat bar.

Le Mazet at 61 Rue St. Andre Des Arts in the 6th has gone a bit upscale from the days when Jim Morrison used to get drunk there. It was the last place he was seen drinking before his death in 1971. Its still a great bar.

Le Petit Journal at 71, boulevard Saint-Michel across for the Luxembourg Gardens is a great little jazz club with a focus on early jazz in the Louis Armstrong vein. Check their website for who's playing: http://pagesperso-orange.fr/claude.phili...
