Both the other answers are correct I like Godaddy to buy the domain name and I have heard good things about 1and 1 also.

The thing that alarms me is that he is asking you to set up a website. Getting the domain is only part, and a small part at that, of doing this. Someone has to build it for him.

As a developer of F500 websites here is my suggestion to make this very easy for you.

To get the domain name, the part that is typed in the browser, go here and try different combination of words to find a name something.com that you like, and is available. DO NOT BUY IT FROM THEM!

OK so now you have found a name that's available and you like. I personally like Godaddy. When it comes to registering a domain I have never found anyone better.

They also offer website space but that's not really where they shine.

I'd like to recommend you evaluate using a free starter kit from Microsoft. It will get you 70% of the way done and give you a professional look. You can tweak the website online without a lot of technical mumbo jumbo.

If you tell them upfront they will install the small business website for you so you can start tweaking right away. I've had websites with them since 1998 and can't count on one hand the times my site has been down.

Don't worry you are getting info from the States. If you have a internet connection you can access a site from anywhere in the world. You'll never see anyone from one of these companys anyway.

Good Daddy is alright.  But as a web designer I'd advise you to use 1 and 1.  Here is a link: http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=10864762 they are full service, the prices are good and there is never a problem with thier servers.  I highly recommend them!  There customer service is second to none.
