Question:

A friend has met a soldier who is in Iraq...?

He says he wants to meet her when he comes back to the states... but in the meantime he wants to talk to her on the phone but says she has to pay a registration fee ($200) in order to talk. He says he will pay 1/2 if she pays 1/2. He says they are supposed to be able to talk unlimited once the registration fee is paid. She says she has to go online through something like "2 connect@aol.com" in order to pay the fee... and this is supposed to be just for the military in Iraq. Has anyone ever heard of this? Does anyone know if this is legitimate?

  1. It's a SCAM.  There's no such thing as a registration fee for using the phone.  Soldiers over there have access to free internet or the usage of AT&T Call Centers.  Do not let your friend fall victim to this scam.

  2. This is a scam.  As someone who was actually in Iraq, I know there is no registration fee.  Anytime someone asks you to send money to pay for something to someone you don't know, run.

  3. i wouldnt let her do it there is online talk programs like skype and yahoo for free that they can use she needs to be careful with talking to people online you never really know who is on the other end and many use the marketing plan of telling them they are in the military but they really are not in order to get attention and other things

it is not legit and i would advise your freind to be very cautious and mabe even not talk to that person he doesnt even sound like he is in the military or even in iraq they get paid to be there if he really wanted to talk to her hed use yahoo or skype or he would chell out the money on his own or get a phone care if she really mattered to him

she needs to run and perhaps change her info this is definately a scam

  4. Its a scam.  Most of us get free phone cards, which means he could call anytime he wanted.  And they have this thing called Skype, where she could call him for like 1 cents a minute and its charges him...tell her don't do it.  if she really wants to talk to a Soldier apply to Anysoldier.com

  5. We do not get free phone usage.  We pay for phone cards unless someone send a card in a care package.

But I have never heard of this program where you pay 200.00 to talk to someone.  People here in Iraq just buy phone cards from the P/X.

  6. its probably not

shouldnt the army have its own website AND email adress?

    aol? kinda doesnt fit
