He booked a flight to Shannon instead of Dublin by mistake. Is there anywhere around Shannon of special interest, any really good pubs or other ideas for stuff to do round there?

  1. That's a lucky break for him, the Shannon region is pretty good.

He should rent a car and drive around County Clare, see the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren and the Ballyvaughn caves.

He should also go to Bunratty to check out the village and the castle and of course see Durty Nellie's, which is right beside the castle. It's a really nice pub.

If he doesn't want to rent a car, he could take the bus to Ennis or Limerick and wander around either of those towns. He could check out King John's Castle in Limerick, and there are hundreds of pubs he'd like, particularly close to O'Connell Street.

Limerick may have a bad reputation, but the people are very friendly and the place is a hotbed of the arts, a sad fact overshadowed by the city's largely undeserved reputation.

  2. HAH! Well they are hardly that far apart. Just take him to Dublin, Dublin is obviously superior to the Shannon region whatever is there.

  3. there are the cliffs of Moher, or you can go to the Burren, Crough Patrick, Westport, or Queen Maeve's grave. there are also buses and trains that can bring you to Giant's Causeway, or Blarney Stone. Or he can just take the 2 hr. train ride to Dublin from Shannon

  4. oh that's a distance. I guess he can try to start a conversation in Gaelic with the sheep up there. (no offense, I'm a great supporter of the Celtic Heritage).

Go to the local pubs and ask for places of interest, the beers are awesome too (I'm French myself and have been sent around many places I did not actually intend to go by crazy airlines ;-) and I don't talk about BA and my luggage.  I've been to Donegal, and people are quite friendly.

  5. Try Galway and Ennis for towns and pubs. he can catch a bus directly from Shannon to Dublin, about 3 hours journey.

  6. get a taxi down the road to bunratty castle! (you wouldnt walk there) pubs there are durty nellys and the creamery (to name a couple) alot of tourist shops, restaurants, history, folk park, hotels etc. (about 10 minutes away (driving)....take the road into limerick city)

  7. Take the bus to Galway. Good little city - quite nice. But for an excellent outing, get a ferry over to the Aran Islands, and spend the night there. Awesome place!
