  1. I weaned mine by putting a little of that sore throat spray on them. It worked. My sister painted ugly faces with make-up on hers- that didn't work, he just laughed and ate anyway! You might try band-aids? Good luck and great job breastfeeding to 27 mths!

  2. many children who have a hard time weaning that late use nursing as a means of comfort. tell you friend she could try finding something to give her daughter in lieu of the nipple at the normal feeding times (i would assume its only morning at night at most). anyway, she could try a cup of warmed whole milk and hold her daughter close while she drinks it, or it could be something like a stuffed animal.

either way, when mommy wants to wean before baby does, it's always going to be a bit of a struggle, but the number one thing to do it stay consistent with it! her daughter will fuss and cry and scream for it, but giving in will only give her the impression that a fit will get her what she wants - then your friends will have a whole new struggle on her hands!

    best of luck!

and CONGRATULTIONS TO HER FOR GIVING HER DAUGHTER THE BEST GIFT EVER FOR OVER TWO YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i only lasted 13 months with my daughter and i'm now nursing my son, 5 months.

    :)

  3. When my son was that age I put band aids on both nipples and told my little boy they were broken. He seemed to accept that answer and that was that.

  4. i recently heard vinegar on them  but havent done it yet

  5. I know of no special salves or creams. Some women DO put unpleasant tasting things on their nipples to discourage baby from nursing -- that may help if she wants to try it.

Otherwise, patience and gentle weaning are the best way.

  6. It's purely for comfort at this age, not nutrition, so as long as she's eating and drinking her meals, you just have to give her the "cuddle" time she wants! Tell her she's a big girl now, and needs to drink from her cup instead of Mommy.

P.S. If she's been nursing this long, her b*****s might not be  ready to quit cold turkey. It sounds weird, but an old wives' cure can really help with engorgement. Wet a bunch of cabbage leaves, and put them on your b*****s and it will help stop the milk production. It sounds like a joke, but I swear it works! I used that suggestion when I got mastitis while weaning, and it worked wonders!
