We both pooled our money together for this ticket, and he already gave them his automatic reply a few months ago. And he also no longer wishes to live in the United States, but he wants to come here again and possibly move to Washington state. We can't afford another ticket at all. He's a good friend of mine, i'm a 24 male from vancouver Canada. Is he allowed to leave if he is coming here with a non refundable plane ticket, on top of that he has a minimum wage part time job which he can't afford to miss until the day before he leaves, which would come up 5 days before he leaves. This happened to us the last time we planned a trip almost right after we bought the ticket i almost wonder if the government has been like trying to stop him from coming here cuz its just really strange, and he never voted, but he does have a driver's licence. What can be done? We can't afford another ticket.

  1. i don't know. maybe call the court house for the info. i didn't have to serve jury duty, because enough others wanted to. i think our government tries to keep us safe and that might include surveillance, but if you are not breaking any laws i doubt they are concerned with you.  if your friend is not an American, well American's suffered alot from trusting the untrustable. our land was open to them, our schools, our freedoms(such as to travel), so if we all must be more watchful, so be it. i hope your friend can understand.

  2. Generally you can request a later date for jury duty based on your travel plans. Or he can say he is changing residences and see if that gets him out of it.

Generally speaking they do not go after you for this but each state is different.

Communicate with the court and explain the scheduled departure; I suspect they will make an allowance for him.

  3. I am not familiar with NY state law, but I know there are numerous ways of getting out of jury duty in Canada. Sometimes you can get a doctor's note, or if you own a business you can say the business won't run without you. You may be able to plead financial difficulty. I would contact them and find out what exceptions are available and see if he can squeeze into one of them.
