I have a friend whom we've tried over and over to tell him that he cannot go out and re-register a stolen vehicle. He hasn't paid the car note in almost two years. The car has been parked at one of his friends house. He thinks that since the collectors hasn't called him in almost a year that it is safe to go and reregister the car. He thinks they no longer wants the car. This fool is going to the tax collectors office in about a month or so from now to tey to get a tag and title for the car. I told him that if he goes to jail, i'm not bailing his crazy behind out. So someone please if you know anything about this or have known anyone that have been in this situation before, please respond. Please respond a.s.a.p. My friend really needs to read this. He should have parked that car infront of the dealership a long time ago but, instead he keeps the car and thinks that the people don't want it back because they haven't tried to contact him in about a year. Please repond. Thanks.

  1. Get your stuff out of the car, park it on the street (preferably away from where you live) and let it go.  It's already on your credit rating so get past it.

If you try to re-register the vehicle, you will probably go to jail.

  2. He needs to clean out all personal possessions in the car, spray down the entire inside of the car with bleach, wipe down the entire outside of the car for fingerprints and ditch it somewhere...They have not forgotten, they just don't care. They reported it stolen, after a certain amount of time insurance pays them off, so collectors could care less. But believe me the police still have it in the computer as stolen. And yes he will go to jail for grand theft auto.

  3. It is still their car, it CANNOT be registered in anyone elses name.  If he tries, I can almost see the cops coming to arrest him right now.  He needs to listen to you.  You are correct !

  4. If you've told him, and he won't listen to you, he won't listen to me either.  Yes, they want it back.  It isn't his car, the owner is a bank somewhere that is looking for it.

Just try not to say "I told you so" and write to him often while he's in prison, he will need that.

  5. Grand theft auto = 2 to 5 years in PRISON. I hope he enjoys tossing salads on lifers....
