A friend of mine recently paid $165 to seal his driveway. I would say it's the size of 4 cars.?

Is this a decent price? Also, they had said they were "In the neighborhood," which made me suspicious... and it rained later that night. Anyhow, I have seen that you shouldn't seal your driveway within 24-48 hrs of rain... what should he expect? Will he need it done again next week? Next year?

It will probably be fine but I get flyers like that every summer.... I usually pay about $40.00 for a similiar size drive way.

Also, you usually do get it done every year anyway... Sometimes you can go longer but if you want to make your drive way last it should be done yearly.

For a driveway that small, I would just do it myself. My family and I did mine, and it was about the size of 20 cars or more total. But anyway, depending on exactly how much later the rain came, it may be a good idea to reseal it to be safe. The general rule of thumb is if you can walk on it without it sticking on your shoes, it should be ok.

most likely it will not seal properly...I think its a fair price...I think you live in fla right? If I am worng correct me. I dont know what the cost of living is down there...up here in pa you are looking at about tyat much...it depends on the size too..dimensions...4 cars I can estimate that its about right

I do a 3 wide (6 cars) every other year. 5 gallon buckets of the good stuff are $20 at Home Depot. It takes at least 4 buckets to do the job well.

It's also hard work and not something to do during the rainy season. If it rains before it dries, you lose your work.

You also shouldn't park cars on it for a day.

I suspect that if it rains after ward it would be fine. BUt why do you need to seal concrete for? That is a mystery to me

It would be a decent price if it were actually a sealer and not offered by someone "in the neighborhood".  These scam artists use a diluted coating, not a sealer. And you are right: sealers should not be applied within 48 hrs of rain.  Concrete is porous and it takes time for the sealer to seep into the holes because of the viscosity of the sealer. It it were to rain before curing, the water seeps under the sealer to keep it from filling the pores.  The coatings these people use looks good when first applied, but within a week, it begins to wear off and they are long gone,  A legitimate contractor would not only have a signed contract, but a warranty (limited) for the work done. Normal sealers will last 2-3 years or more, depending upon the "traffic" on it.
