updates are large, actually massive files, and they slow down my computer whenever I download them. What is your opinion? I am not a computer literate.

  1. An updating service on Microsoft's Web site that enables users to obtain bug fixes and new features for their version of Windows. Windows Update components analyze your PC's configuration and display a list of appropriate downloads for your individual system. There is typically a shortcut to Windows Update on the Start menu, but the site may be accessed directly at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

  2. They are not dat massive as u r thinking them to b....they are very important from the security point of view.......u must download them regularly. And they dont slow down ur computer at all. Instead they add new features and functions and add to the computers performance.

And protect u from unknown virus or hacker attacks !!

  3. If you are not computer aware, you should use these updates. Let them download when you are not using your computer. They will do no harm, and will protect your PC.

  4. It is a good idea to update the computer often. It will slow the computer down while they are downloading, but will help speed up the computer when they are applied and reduce the possibility of viruses which can slow down your computer even more. Definitely a good idea.

  5. It's extremely important to download those as most are security patches.

Or enable automatic updates, and they would download automatically while your PC is idle. You should notice no slowdown.

If you opt for doing it manually, check the update website on the second Tuesday of every month. That is the day they are normally released.
