  4. all the above answers are correct.. it's the largest organ.

  5. The definition of an organ is a group of tissues having specific function or functions.  If you examine a cross-section of the skin, you will find squamous epithelium, nerves, blood vessels, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, hair follicles, muscles (erector pili), fat tissues, and loose connective tissue.

It preventives loss of body fluids, helps cool or warm the body, detects stimuli, provides mechanical protection against infections, allows for body movement, protects against ultraviolet radiation, and provides a habitat for normal microbial inhabitants!

People who receive severe burns over the body are in serious danger of dying from fluid loss and infection.

  8. Yes it is

  9. OK ... You've already been told that the skin is an organ and that it's the largest.  However, what does it do?

First, the skin is your first source of immunity as it is part of your immune system.  Your skin literally blocks the things that would cause you to become ill (called anitgens).

Second, it is one of the organs of your excretory system (as are your kidneys and lungs) as it helps to remove waste products and toxins from your body that are suspended in sweat.

Third, your skin helps to regulate body temperature (sweat cools your body and hair traps air to help insulate against the cold).

Fourth, you skin is also essential in the strengthening of your bones and to other tissues, such as muscles, as when your skin is exposed to the sun's ultraviolet light, your skin makes Vitamin D and without Vitamin D your body cannot store calcium.

So, not only is your skin an organ, it has many different functions.

  10. Yes your skin is the largest organ
