Okay my friend she was in 7th grade until her school closed then she had 2 move schools.. and in that school she was not doing 2 well academically because of the way she was being treated by like the staff.. the school...etc and everything else was not going well either.. and that school left her back and did not give her a chance 2 go 2 summer school.. then in the next school they tested her and they said she has 2 do 7th grade again which made her really sad and i felt bad...so when she went 2 her new school in september she had 2 start grade 7 again when she was really supposed 2 be in grade 8 and she was really sad about the whole thing... and this was a school that if she was in 7th grade the work that they are teaching is actually 8th grade work.. thats the way the school had went.. so she was like recently passing math tests like getting 90's and 80's and... i will write more in an additional post :)

  1. The chances of that are slim to none.  It's probably best that she stay where they put her because she's there for a reason.  You may say it's because of social issues (someone doesn't like her, the teachers and admin treated her unfairly), but the fact of the matter is, when a student is tested, they are tested on content mastery and not social variances.

There would be no sense for her to try to do work that is too hard for her.  At least repeating the grade she has a chance to see some material she may be familiar with and possibly have a little success while she tries to get a fresh start.  Her best bet would be to take the gift the school is giving her and make the best of it.

You can say what you want about your friend getting a raw deal, but I can guarantee that she did not turn in all of her homework, all of her other assignments, and  I can also guarantee that she did not devote the necessary time to studying for her exams.  If she did and still struggles, then there is a spec. ed problem and more than likely would have been addressed by now.  At the end of the day, students have to be able to be honest with themselves about their level of effort instead of making excuses.

The main problem I see from my experiences and from the information you have provided, you, your friends, and students similar, seem to not understand that school is not a social event.  It doesn't matter how cool your friends are, how hot your clothes are, how rich mummy and daddy are (or aren't).  School IS NOT A SOCIAL EVENT.  The quicker some students realize this the better off we'll all be.

  2. Sure, if she studies hard and talks to an instructor or the principal they can put her in the grade she's supposed to be if she shows ability and can pass the tests, her parents need to make an appointment with a school counsellor and she should study hard over the summer, not every day but at least a few hours a week, with tests on the grade eight math, english, social studies and science subjects weekly.

She'll need appropriate study materials and curriculum.

The English teacher sounds pretty bitter but there is still a chance she can do it.

I was kept behind a year and later found out that I needed glasses and I was always tired because my father was up late all the time. After I got glasses, and contacts later, I was placed ahead two grades without studying extra, I just mastered the courses I was in and my teachers noticed my ability.

  3. The only way to do it is if she stayed home and was homeschooled until she made up the additional year and could pass a test given by the school to jump her up a grade.  She would have to be dedicated to doing above and beyond while working at home to get ahead.  Plus, if she was in private school it might be a little easier - I know the private schools around here - some of them do not go by age, but by ability when putting people into grades (unless the parents want them held back or held to grade level for a reason).  PS - why is this in the homeschooling section?  You said nothing about homeschooling.
