A gas pipe under a river is 196.8 ft below the surface at its lowest point as shown in the drawing.?

If the angle of depression of the pipe is 4.962° , then what is the distance from point A to point B on the surface of the water? What is the length of the pipe between points A and B? Round to the nearest foot.

    Not knowing the term, "angle of depression", assuming it is the angle at A, then this is simple trig.  The relationship is

    tangent (angle) = CB/CA

    so CB = CAtan(angle) or 196.8*tan(4.962)

    AB^2 = (CB^2 + CA^2)


  2. No... I call BS on this... nobody could measure that angle to 3 decimal places, and nobody would decimalize their feet that way.
