I want to get a gift for my homestay family. I haven't met them yet- but even though I am paying them, I feel if you are staying in someone's home for 3 weeks, you ought to get them something. I was thinking something that shows my hometown- maybe a poster of Philadelphia? I hear most people are Catholic, so maybe a religious painting? Im not sure, any ideas?

  1. I think the idea you had of something from your hometown, or home state would be the best gift. Get something that your state is know for, like for example, Vermont for it's Maple Syrup, Teddy Bears and Ice Cream, or  Wisconsin for its Cheese, maybe Hershey's Chocolate for your state or something else your city or state is known for.

  2. My wife makes "Chaplets" for Catholic Poeple. They are a beautiful thing.

She doesn't have a web-site or I would tell you to look on it.

I would say maybe $40-60 a piece would be a fair price to pay.

You might contact a local "Father" and get some ideas on where to purchase them.

  3. Not everyone is Catholic here in Nicaragua, but if your homestay family is i can assure you it will be a very well received gift. Something from your hometown will also be appreciated. Some little Liberty Bells and a story about them will make for an interesting first day.
