The curtains for the year 2010 are going to fall soon as the epilogue of the chapter is underway. The year has added so much to the memory stock of snooker fans, as it was full of excitement, drama and fine snooker. The season has not ended yet but the year
has and we are going to have a look into the events that took place during the year.
Masters 2010 - The year 2010 started with a non-ranking yet much praised and prestigious tournament ‘Masters’. Pokerstars.com Masters was held at Wembley Arena, London, England. The tournament took place between 10 and 17 January. Mark Selby
won the event by beating Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-9 in the final match. Prize money for this invitational event was £150,000.
Welsh Open 2010 – This ranking event was held between 25 and 30 January at the Newport centre in Newport, Wales. For the first time this event was sponsored by Totesport.com. Winner of Totesport.com Welsh open 2010 was John Higgins who defeated
the defending champion Ali Carter 9-4, in the final match.
China Open 2010 – The 2010 China Open was sponsored by Sanyuan foods, and took place between 29 March and 4 April. The event was held at the Beijing university student’s gymnasium, Beijing, China. Mark Williams raised the
title as he beat his Chinese counter-part Ding Junhui 10-6 in the final. The winner of the tournament Mark Williams received £55,000 prize money.
World Snooker Championship 2010 – Betfred.com World snooker championship was held at the ‘crucible theatre’ in Sheffield, England. The event took place between 17 April and 4 May this year.
World snooker championship is by far the most prestigious and highly ranked tournament of any sporting calendar. Neil Robertson became the first Australian to have won a world championship in modern era, after he beat Graeme Dott 18-13 in the final. Winning
the world titles Neil Robertson pocketed the prize worth £250,000.
Rundili 2010 World Snooker Wuxi Classic – This was a non-ranking, invitational event. It was held in the Wuxi Sports Centre, Wuxi, China between 3 to 6 June. Winner of this invitational event was Shaun Murphy, who defeated Ding Junhui in
the finals.
Star Xing Pai Players Tour Championship (event one) – It was a minor-ranking event which was played for the sponsorship purposes, at world snooker academy, Sheffield, England. 75 professional and 73 non-professional players participated
in the event. Mark Williams was the winner of this event; he beat Stephen Maguire 4-0 in the final match.
Star Xing Pai Players Tour Championship (event two) – This event was a sequel to the previous one, took place between 8
and 11 July. It was held at the same venue only this time the winner was different, as Mark Selby beat Barry Pinches 4-3 in the final.
Star Xing Pai Players Tour Championship (event three) – It was the third out of six events. Tom Ford won his professional title by knocking out Jack Lisowski 4-0. The event took place between 6 and 8 August 2010.
Star Xing Pai Players Tour Championship (event four) – This event of the championship was played between 14
and 16 August 2010 at the World Snooker Academy, Sheffield, England. The winner of this event was Barry Pinches who emphatically defeated Ronnie O’Sullivan 4-3 in the final match.
Euro players tour championship (event one) – Also known as Paul Hunter classic, it is a minor-ranking tournament. The event took place in Furth, Germany, between 26 and 29 August 2010. Judd Trump defeated Anthony Hamilton 4-3 to claim the
victory.
Roewe Shanghai Masters 2010 – Roewe shanghai is a professional ranking tournament, held at Shanghai Grand Stage, Shanghai, China. Players from England, Ireland, Scotland, China, Pakistan and Thailand took part in the tournament. With prize
money of £60,000, the event was held between 6 and 12 September. Now world-number-seven Allister Carter won the titles after having a smooth run of 10-7 over Jamie Burnett.
12BET.com World Open 2010 – World Open took place at the Scottish exhibition and conference centre SECC, Glasgow, Scotland between 18 and 26 September. The event was sponsored by 12BET.com for the first time.
Neil Robertson was the defending champion and he was able to defend the title by defeating Ronnie O’Sullivan in final. The prize money for the tournament was £100,000.
