A glimpse at Jenson Button’s performance in 2012 Formula 1 season so far
McLaren driver Jenson Button is presumably one of the most favourite drivers in 2012 Formula 1 championship.
He is currently at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus with 8 points.
He delivered an inspiring performance in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and became the first driver to claim grand prix victory in 2012 Formula 1 season after setting off from second place in the grid.
However, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit, he could not score even a single point as he came 14th even after beginning from second grid position.
Nevertheless, he made a striking come back in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit and secured an impressive second podium finish after qualifying for 5th place in the grid.
Unfortunately, in the next four races, he could only score 2 points as he faced difficulties with the car’s setup and tyre management.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton is presently leading the drivers’ championship with 88 points. In addition, he is 2 points ahead of the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso who has a lead of just 1 point over the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel
of Red Bull.
It will be important to mention that after the Canadian GP, Button felt quite disappointed on his uncompetitive performances and said that he doesn’t know what is going wrong with him on track during the races.
Nonetheless, the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh expressed support for the British driver and said that they are ready to provide him with everything which he may need in order to improve his performance in the approaching races.
“Jenson is a great racing driver, but we served him badly over the weekend,” Whitmarsh said. “His rear tyres were completely shot because we didn't long-run with his suspension set-up on Friday. That was our fault. We didn't give him a car he could perform
in.”
He added, “Looking at what is happening with the rear tyres I think the car was excessively hard on them. It was killing the tyres. He is a super-smooth driver and we just didn't give him a car he could do it with. We have to get it right.”
Furthermore, he said that they are trying their best to make the substantial advancements and the significant preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the upcoming races in order to make their position stronger in this year’s championship
fight. He also said that they have got the potential to claim the title as they have the perfect blend of expert staff and talented pair of drivers.
Besides, Button is hoping that the team will make progress ahead of the approaching race so that he may be able to bounce back with a competitive car.
Above and beyond, he is positively looking forward to perform well in the 2012 European GP which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit in Spain on June 10.
The 2009 world champion is indisputably one of the most talented drivers and it will be interesting to see how the season turns up for him in the forthcoming races.
