A glimpse at Nico Rosberg’s performance in 2012 Formula 1 season until now
Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has been one of the most consistent point scorers in the 2012 Formula 1 season so far and has surely got the potential to stand amongst the most talented drivers in the field.
Rosberg is presently standing at 6th place in the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Moreover, he is behind Kimi Raikkonen and is just a point ahead of his main rivals, Jenson Button of McLaren and Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
The Brackley based team had quite a successful pre-season testing programme this season as compared to the struggling one during the preceding year in which they couldn’t test the essential developments in their car.
The veteran German driver performed reasonable well in the qualifying of the first two grands prix in which he secured 7th grid slots. However, he could not pocket even a single point in the opening two races as he faced difficulties with finding
his race pace and eventually came 12th and 13th in the charts.
Nevertheless, he made a strong comeback in the third race which was held at Shanghai International Circuit in China and took his maiden victory after claiming his first ever pole position. Additionally, it will be interesting to mention that it was his team’s
first win after a very long time.
Later, in the Bahrain GP, he secured an impressive fifth place finish after taking a start from the same grid position. Afterwards, in the Spanish GP, he secured 7th position after qualifying for 6th place in the grid.
Later on, he strike back really well in the Monaco GP as secured second podium finish after taking a start from the second grid slot. Then, in the Canadian GP, he performed quite convincingly and secured 6th position finish after beginning from
the fifth grid position. Additionally, he again secured 6th place finish after starting from the same grid slot in the European GP.
Conversely, he faced difficulties during the British GP due to changing weather conditions and could not pocket even a single point as he came 15th after setting off from 11th grid position.
Over and above, he struggled with finding his true pace in the German and Hungarian grands prix in which he could only secure 10th place finishes after starting from 21st and 13th grid positions.
Although, Mercedes faced tyre degradation issue during the last couple of race due to which they could not attain competitive results. Nonetheless, their team principal, Ross Brawn has said that they are not feeling upset and are looking forward to perform
well in each and every kind of track. He also said that they are hoping to see improvements in the upcoming races after the mid-season break.
“Obviously our car is suited to certain tracks and what we have to do is to create a car that's competitive on all circuits. That's our priority,” Brawn said. “There's a massive amount of work going on to improve that situation. Occasionally you get a team
that dominates on all tracks all year, we've been fortunate enough to be there, but more often than not there are ups and downs, particularly ups and downs for how well you use the tyres at different tracks. It's something that we're addressing and we intend
to have a broader range of usage on the car.”
